Relationships should provide a place where we
are loved for
being ourselves, and where we are secure in finding comfort and support. Yet we
often have great difficulty identifying and expressing our feelings, needs, and
desires to our loved ones.
Art therapy in couples therapy is a type of
psychotherapy that focuses on understanding, changing, and improving the ways
that a couple interacts with each other. It uses specific
drawing activities that are helpful in identifying roles as well
as providing an experiential way of working together. Using art
experiential exercises and art psychotherapy, I work with couples to:
- Deepen their intimacy and sense of connection
to each other
- Concretely see, using art, where each is
stuck in unconscious expectations and patterns
- Examine and change family roles, behavioral
patterns, and triangulations
Our first session will begin with a relationship
evaluation drawing. In our second session we will discuss the areas that need work and
make a plan for therapy. The number of sessions that follow will depend on the
length of time a couple needs to achieve their relationship goals.
